For Mumbai film lovers, 2018 is very special. It celebrates the twentieth year of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image’s annual Festival of Film – which is now familiar to the festival world as Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star.
This issue is dedicated to the growth of MAMI, from its early fledging days, lit with enthusiasm and an unbridled passion for cinema, to its immense global recognition now. Today, the festival is an integral part of Mumbai’s cultural scene, with its energetic and committed team presenting new films, eminent film personalities, talks and discussions throughout the year. On Global Screens salutes them!
Alongside MAMI, the year 2018 marks two decades since Uma da Cunha first started editing and publishing the magazine Film India Worldwide. Then, as now, the aim has been to champion Indian independent films on the global arena.
With this in mind, this quarterly journal is being re-branded as On Global Screens, and being launched to coincide with the opening of the 20th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star (October 25 - November 1).
Wishing Mumbai, our film capital, happy viewing at 2018 MAMI, and happy reading on the country’s indie film scene, with our new endeavor, On Global Screens.
