Produced by Pramod Films, ‘Letters’ premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Stuttgart, 2019 and will now screen in ten cities as part of the Jagran Film Festival.

Set in Italy during World War II, Shingal’s short film covers the story of a young soldier entrusted with the job of reading letters written by soldiers to their loved ones back home. The theme dwells into the emotional aspect of war and the importance of letter censorship.

“‘Letters’ is a film very close to my heart. When we talk about war, only brutality and destruction comes to our minds. But I have tried to explore the humane and emotional side of war, through the letters written by soldiers to their loved ones back home. Something I don’t remember seeing much in war films” says Shingal.

His first short film, ‘Kindle’, was officially selected for Stuttgart, Florence, Rome and Karachi. ‘Rice Bowl’ was his debut animation-short film and was screened at the Short Films Corner at Cannes, 2016. More recently, Shingal has directed a feature-length film, ‘Seven’, for Zee5.
