Borobudur Temple is the biggest Buddhism temple in the world, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Festival is established in honouring the glorious time of the past, to preserve the culture, and to popularize the history of human civilization, especially the Borobudur Temple to the international world through filmmaking.

The festival looks for high-quality films/documentaries with outstanding cinematography and touching stories that go inline with the vision of the festival, and carrying themes about historical places, tradition, ancient story, history, heroism, mystical, religious stories from the past, prehistoric, archaeology, folklore, verbal tradition, kingdoms, art, literature, and culture. The festival also invites artists, sculptures, art makers, musicians, dancers, painters, and people who care about ancient tradition to submit their work.


International Feature Film:

Feature-length narrative with a minimum running time of 60 minutes.
International movies with various spoken language are welcomed but must be added with English subtitles.

International Short Film: Short narrative film with a run time of 59 minutes and below.

Documentary Feature: Over 60 minutes in length

Documentary Short: Runtime of 59 minutes and below

Newcomer: We are welcoming newcomers to the movie industry. The film director must state that the movie is his or her third movie (or under) on his/her application.

Animation: Any technique, with any duration, maximum 125 minutes

Art & Performances: Theatrical performances, drama, pantomime, art performances, opera, dance, any art exhibition
