‘Less Is More’ is a European development lab backed by Creative Europe’s MEDIA Programme which, for 2019, has selected 16 film projects from 336 applications and 12 mentors to nurture them. Among them (and the only one from India) is Jatla’s Hindi language feature, ‘In the Belly of a Tiger’.

The Mumbai-based writer-director-cinematographer is working on the project with his regular collaborator, writer-producer Amanda Mooney, and the film will be set in a village where being killed by a tiger to seek government compensation has become the most viable means for financial survival. On February 10, the projects were presented at the ‘Less Is More’ gathering in Berlin. ‘In the Belly of a Tiger’ was awarded the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Cinema Fund for Script Development, following which it was selected at the 2018 NFDC Film Bazaar’s Co-Production Market.

Jatla’s debut feature film, 'Love and Shukla' travelled to over 20 film festivals worldwide including those at Busan and Tallinn.
